Cardinal Francis George, Archbishop of Chicago, said he was considering selling his $20 million lakeside mansion in order to return to “evangelical simplicity”. “I would like to conform my own life to a model that’s more simple,” the cardinal said. Last week, the Right Rev Patrick O’Donoghue, Bishop of Lancaster, said he was selling his residence because its “grandeur” was inappropriate for a Christian leader.
