John Henry Newman: In His Time

The book looks at aspects of Newman the man, his life, and times. It provides a wide ranging assessment that sheds new light on why so many people consider him to be such a great man, both of the nineteenth century, but also with much to teach us today.

The work is a brand new evaluation of Newman's life and work, in the context of his times, and of aspects of his personality. It contains 14 chapters written by Newman scholars from around the world. The book is aimed at anyone who wants to know more about John Henry Newman. Foreword by Cardinal Jean Honoré.

The chapters cover Newman's activities in Oxford, Littlemore, Rome, Birmingham and Dublin, as well as exploring various facets of his rich personality - as preacher, educator, Oratorian, letter writer, novelist, poet, confessor, and convert. A well-rounded portrait of Newman emerges, revealing why many people consider him a future saint of the Church.
